YOUR NURSING ROADMAP — AUG 24, 2026

Don't find out late that your course doesn't count

A course that counts at one California ADN program may not count at another. Check it early.

You took the class and passed it. That is not the same as the program accepting it.

PREREQUISITES

Don't Find Out During Application Season That Your Prerequisite Doesn't Count

You took the class. You passed it. It's on your transcript.

But does the nursing program you're applying to actually accept it?

A course that satisfies a prerequisite at one California ADN program may not satisfy it at another, especially if you completed the course at a different college.

Check Your Course Early

If you're unsure whether a course counts:

  • Check the nursing program's website for a prerequisite equivalency list
  • If one isn't available, meet with a counselor to confirm your course meets the requirement

Some programs also require students who completed prerequisites at another college to submit a nursing prerequisite evaluation. These evaluations may have their own deadlines, so don't wait until the nursing application opens to check.

Once you know which ADN programs you're interested in, confirm that your courses count and whether a prerequisite evaluation is required.
